A new chapter has opened in Nigeria’s media buying and advertising industry as Brenda Nwagwu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of QVT Media emerged as the first elected female President of the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) at the association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The event which was held on Friday at the Ogere Resort, Ogun State marked a historic milestone for women’s leadership in Nigeria’s media and advertising ecosystem; and she officially took over from the outgoing President, Dozie Okafor.
Her emergence is particularly significant for an association established in 1999, as she becomes the first woman to occupy its highest elective position. Beyond the symbolism of the milestone, her election brings to the forefront a professional whose career has been built around media, marketing communications, business and leadership.
For Nwagwu, the new responsibility is not entirely unfamiliar territory. Before her election, she served as MIPAN’s immediate past Vice President, giving her firsthand knowledge of the association, its members and some of the issues confronting independent media practitioners in an increasingly complex industry.
Her professional journey spans more than two decades, cutting across marketing communications, financial services and technology. She has held strategic roles with major agencies, including Media Reach OMD and All Seasons Mediacom, where she gained extensive experience in media strategy, investment and brand development.
She is also the Managing Director of Leeds Production Nigeria, the exclusive media sales representative for Disney Star and StarLife TV in Nigeria and Ghana.
Through her various professional engagements, Nwagwu has worked with brands ranging from emerging businesses to multinational and Fortune 500 companies, helping them make more informed decisions around media and brand growth.
Beyond the corporate environment, she has developed a reputation for investing in people. A strong advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, Nwagwu has been involved in mentoring and developing young professionals within the marketing and communications space.
Her interests also extend to the development of local content and the changing dynamics of the media landscape. As an entrepreneur, consultant and trainer, she facilitates learning in areas including audience measurement, communications strategy, as well as media planning and buying in the digital era. She is also a faculty member at Alphabet Media Academy and Digify Africa, a Meta initiative.
Nwagwu’s professional credentials include a Fellowship of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria. Between 2017 and 2019, she served as Communications Consultant to Nigeria’s Open Government Partnership Initiative.
She currently sits on the boards of several companies, including Leeds Production Nigeria, Shuttabox Nigeria, Adcontinuum and ICAP Technologies Limited. She is also the immediate past President of AIESEC Alumni Nigeria.
Away from her corporate responsibilities, Nwagwu has maintained an interest in community development. She serves on the Women Empowerment Project Committee of the Onitsha Leadership & Entrepreneurial Centre, an initiative of the Onitsha Advancement Foundation (ONAF).
With her election, expectations are already high among industry stakeholders who see her extensive experience and previous involvement in MIPAN’s leadership as valuable assets at a time when the media industry continues to evolve rapidly.
As she takes the reins, Nwagwu will be expected to draw on her experience in media, marketing communications, entrepreneurship and professional development to strengthen MIPAN’s voice and advance the interests of independent media practitioners across Nigeria.
